This paper aims to analyze the evolution of research and technological innovations that have taken in forest and pulp industrial areas, and emphasizes their possible impacts on the competitiveness of the Brazilian pulp industry. First, primary and secondary data are used to evaluate the main types of research and technological innovations and, in sequence, it is evaluated the importance of technological innovations that have contributed to the expansion of the Brazilian pulp industry in the pulp world market. Technological innovations in forest and industrial areas in the Brazilian pulp industry have brought significant increases of forest and industrial productivities, leading to reduction of pulp production cost. Consequently, profitability of the... |

Olive is one of the strategic products in Iran, and due to the significant cultivation area of this product, oil companies should be equipped with suitable processing equipment. Unfortunately, despite the high capacity of olive in Iran, oil companies are equipped with imported machines. In this study, the construction and evaluation of the Three-counter device of Iran has been developed. The machine has three oil, water and olive pulp outputs. In order to evaluate the machine, the amount of moisture content and fat extracted from the machine was checked at 2500 and 3500 rpm and 30 and 45% water content. Also, four different samples Manzallina, Fishemi, Kalamata and Oily were used in this experiment. The main components of the machine include an electric... |

In previous literature, the degree of exchange rate pass-through to importing countrys currency has often been found to be incomplete, which supports the idea of imperfect competition in the forest products markets. In this study, exchange rate pass-through is examined by employing a mark-up model for the UK and German pulp and newsprint markets for 198697. Two specifications are compared, one where exchange rates in importing countries are employed and the other that attributes for the fact that US dollar is largely used in pricing for forest industry products in Europe. In contrast to previous studies, our estimates indicate very low degrees of pass-through, which is consistent with competitive European markets for pulp and paper. Consequently,... |

This study evaluated the effect of the processing and long-term storage on the antioxidant potential and activity of antioxidant enzymes of frozen purées from six acerola clones. Ripe acerolas from clones BRS 235, BRS 236, BRS 237, BRS 238, II47/1 and BRS 152 were harvested; the pulp was processed, packed in sealed polyethylene plastic bags and stored in a domestic freezer at -18°C for 11 months. Samples of each clone were analyzed on harvest/processing day and every 30 days after for bioactive antioxidant compounds, antioxidant enzyme activity and total antioxidant activity. Acerola purées presented a decrease of non-enzyme antioxidants and an increase of antioxidant enzymes activities, indicatives of a compensatory mechanism between enzymatic and... |
